Appalachian Mountain Club Information |
Since 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) serves to promote the protection, enjoyment and knowledge of nature. It is the nation's oldest outdoor recreation and conservation organization in existence. It was founded by Professor Edward Charles Pickering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, MA. Pickering started a local group of people interested in exploring mountains. This group helped to map out the White Mountains as well as built the original 8 High Huts of the White Mountains. The AMC is the group that determines lists of mountains, such as the New England 4,000 Footers, The NH 4,000 Footers, The VT 4,000 Footers, The ME 4,000 Footers and several others.

The AMC has put out 29 editions of the AMC White Mountain Guide: a complete hiking guide book of the White Mountains. The first edition was put out in 1907, and the latest edition was put out in 2012. Many people use the maps in the back pocket of the books while hiking, while others try to collect all the editions.
Join our group on to BUY, SELL, SWAP and TRADE vintage AMC White Mountain Guide Books and maps (as well as other vintage New England books).
