Mount Killington is the second tallest mountain in the Green Mountains of Vermont at 4,235 feet. The mountain is a popular ski resort called Killington Ski Area, also known as "The Beast of the East". There is a gondola as well as a restaurant on the mountain. The Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail both cross the summit of Mount Killington. If you are traveling South on the Appalachian Trail, you won't reach another 4,000 footer until Virginia. The hike described below passes by the Cooper Lodge, a bunkhouse for hikers.

Mount Killington Trail Maps - Directions from the parking lot to the summit Top

The map below shows how to get to the summit of Mount Killington from the Brewer's Corner parking lot.

You begin at the Brewer's Corner Parking lot located in Mendon, New Vermont on Wheelerville Road. Take the Bucklin Trail up for 3.3 miles. The first 2ish miles are pretty flat with low inclines. Once you reach a junction with the Long Trail / Appalachian Trail, you will want to stay right and hike for 0.2 more miles where you will see the Cooper Lodge. From there, the summit of Mount Killington is just another 0.2 miles up. This last part is really steep and require rock scrambles. Once you enjoy the views on the summit, retrace your steps the way you came up to get back to the Brewer's Corner parking lot.

Mount Killington Driving Directions Top

The parking lot for this hike is located in Mendon, Vermont on Wheelerville Road in the Brewer's Corner parking lot.

From US-4 W/Woodstock Road drive 10.1 miles and turn right onto US-4 W/VT-12 N/Pleasant Street. Continue on Route 4 West for 26.2 miles and turn left onto Wheelerville Road. Drive 4 miles until you see a parking lot on the left side of the road.
