Mount Tecumseh is a 4,003 foot mountain in the Sandwich Range of the White Mountains. It is the shortest mountain on the AMC's official 4,000 footers list.

The mountain is named after the Native American Tribe, Shawnee, leader of Tecumseh. Waterville Valley Ski Resort, one of the largest ski areas in New Hampshire, is on Mount Tecumseh. Many hikers choose to ascend the Mt. Tecumseh Trail and descend the Sosman Trail for 0.6 miles, then follow the ski trails the rest of the way down.

Mount Tecumseh Trail Maps - Directions from the parking lot to the summit Top

The map below shows how to get to the summit of Mount Tecumseh via the Mount Tecumseh Trail.

Begin on the Mount Tecumseh Trail. Ascend for 1.2 miles until you come to a view point area, overlooking some of Waterville Valley Ski Areas slopes. Continue up the Mount Tecumseh Trail for 1.0 miles where you will come to a junction with the Sosman Trail. Stay right to continue on the Mount Tecumseh Trail for another 0.3 miles (there are 2 trails leading to the summit, each 0.3 miles).

To get back to the road, retrace your steps back down. You can choose to walk down the ski slopes on off seasons, and enjoy great views the whole way down.

Mount Tecumseh Driving Directions Top

For the above mapped hike, the parking lot is located in the Waterville Valley Ski area off Tripoli Road in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. It may be hard to find the sign for where the Mount Tecumseh trail starts, so look for parking lot area #1. The trail starts just across the street from that parking lot.

To the Waterville Valley Ski Area Parking Lot #1 / Mount Tecumseh Trail head
From I-93, take exit 28 for Route 49. At the bottom of the exit ramp, head East on Route 49. After 10.4 miles, turn left onto Tripoli Road. Follow Tripoli Road for 1.2 miles, then turn left onto the Waterville Valley Ski Area access road (Fire Route 30). Follow the access road for 0.6 mile which will bring you to the parking areas and the ski lodge. Look for parking lot #1 (That is the closest parking lot to where the Mount Tecumseh trail begins.)
