Mount Kearsarge is a 2,937 foot mountain in Warner and Wilmot, NH. There are 2 state parks located on the mountain: Winslow State Park and Rollins State Park. The summit is all open bare rock due to a forest fire in 1796. On a clear day, you can see as far as Boston, MA from the fire tower. The mountain was once known as Carasarga, which means "Notch pointed mountain of pines".

Many people confuse Mount Kearsarge with the other Mount Kearsarge in NH (known as Mount Kearsarge North). The other peak is in Chatham, NH and reaches 3,268 feet.

Mount Kearsarge is on the 52 with a View hiking list as well as the NH Fire Tower Quest and New England Fifty Finest - some of which you can earn a hiking patch!

Mount Kearsarge Trail Maps Top

The map below shows how to get to the summit of Mount Kearsarge via a loop hike.

From the Winslow State Park Picnic Area Parking lot, hike up the Winslow Trail for 1.1 miles until you reach the summit of Mount Kearsarge (reaching a junction with the Barlow Trail just before the summit, which you can take on the way down to make it a loop hike).

After enjoying the summit, head back down to that junction and vear right to take the Barlow Trail. The parking area you began on is 1.7 miles down with scenic vistas and ledges along the way. There are views of Mount Cardigan.

Mount Kearsarge Driving Directions Top

These are driving directions to hike Mount Kearsarge via the Barlow / Winslow Trail:
From I-89 North, take exit 10 towards NH 114 Sutton. Turn onto N Road. (Left if you were coming from I-89 South). Take another right to stay on N Road. Drive 0.4 miles and turn left onto Kearsarge Valley Road. Drive 3 miles and turn right onto Kearsarge Mountain Road. Drive 1.6 miles and turn slight right onto Kearsarge Mountain Road / Winslow House Road. Drive roughly 0.8 miles to the parking area for the Barlow and Winslow hiking trails.
